OverviewOur facility has 2 networked computer labs with at least 24 computers. There are also four mobile lab carts that circulate throughout the building. Every computer has access to the Internet, using the Internet Explorer browser. Our network uses Windows XP. In addition to our technology, the media center has a book collection of approximately 15,000 volumes as well a periodicals collection of 15 to 20 titles. There are separate areas for research, reading, and multimedia production. We also have a small television studio and produce a daily broadcast with news and features about the school. Student media assistants, lab technicians, and TV studio assistants take media courses as elective credits and are an invaluable resource in handling the daily operation of the media center. The audiovisual assistant tapes instructional television programs off-air upon request from teachers.
General Information PhilosophyThe media center subscribes to an open scheduling concept, which allows for individual, small group, and whole class use. Teachers work with the media staff to plan units of study based on the curriculum. Individual students may also utilize media resources before and after school, during break and both lunches, as well as during class time as needed.
